Think about the last time you splurged on a skincare product. Maybe you spent an hour reading reviews, comparing ingredients, and watching TikTok recommendations before finally hitting “buy.” You didn’t just throw your money at the first jar of cream you saw—you researched, you planned, and you invested in a product that would (hopefully) give you long-term results.
That’s exactly how investing works.
Yet, when it comes to money, women are often told to save instead of invest—to stash our cash away like an expensive serum sitting unopened in the back of a bathroom drawer. But here’s the truth: money sitting in a savings account is like makeup that never gets used—it loses value over time.
I started Nora House because I believe every woman should feel as confident investing her money as she does choosing the right foundation shade. You don’t need a finance degree, a Wall Street job, or a spreadsheet obsession to build wealth—you just need the right mindset and tools.
Let’s get into it.
Who Am I, and Why Did I Start Nora House?
I’m a Norwegian woman who has spent years working in finance, from investment banking to fund management. But when I looked around the finance world, I saw the same thing over and over again: men dominating the conversation, while women were left out of it.
Meanwhile, the women I knew were brilliant with money—budgeting, saving, making smart spending decisions—but when it came to investing, they felt intimidated. And I get it. The finance world is full of jargon, charts, and suited-up finance bros who act like you need to read The Wall Street Journal daily to understand how to invest.
Spoiler: You don’t.
That’s why I created Nora House —a space where women can learn to invest in a way that’s smart, approachable, and (dare I say) fun.
The name comes from Nora in Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House—one of the most famous Norwegian literary figures. Nora’s story is all about breaking free, taking control, and building an independent life. That’s exactly what financial freedom is about, too.
If You Understand Makeup, You Can Understand Investing
The idea that investing is complicated or too risky is a myth. In fact, you already make investment-like decisions every day—you just don’t call them that.
💄 Investing = Buying Makeup
Before buying a new foundation, you do your research. You check if the shade matches, if the formula works for your skin type, and if it’s worth the price.
Investing is the same. Before buying a stock or fund, you look at the company, check if it fits your goals, and decide if the risk is worth the potential return.
If you wouldn’t impulse-buy a random foundation without research, why would you throw your money into an investment without understanding it?
👜 Long-Term Investing = A Designer Handbag
A well-chosen Chanel or Hermès bag holds its value for decades—sometimes even increasing in price. Meanwhile, fast fashion pieces lose their value the moment you take off the tags.
The stock market works the same way. Investing in quality, long-term assets (like index funds or blue-chip stocks) is like buying a designer bag—smart, strategic, and worth it. On the other hand, jumping into every new “hot” stock without research? That’s fast fashion investing—and it rarely pays off.
💅 Risk vs. Reward = The Indie Beauty Brand Gamble
Ever taken a chance on a niche, indie lipstick brand? Maybe you spent more than you planned, the shipping took forever, and you weren’t sure if it would even look good on you.
That’s like buying an obscure, high-risk stock. It could be a game-changer, or it could be a total flop. That’s why smart investors (like smart beauty lovers) balance their choices—mixing safe, proven picks with a few higher-risk, high-reward bets.
Why Women Need to Invest
The reality? Women live longer, earn less, and retire with far less money than men. That’s not fear-mongering—it’s just facts.
🔹 On average, women retire with 30% less money than men, even though we live longer.
🔹 Women are more likely to take career breaks, meaning less money going into pensions.
🔹 Women tend to save rather than invest, missing out on compound growth.
The good news? Investing is how we change this. It’s how we build wealth, gain independence, and stop relying on paychecks alone to secure our futures.
